CORAnet™ is a Mobile Personal Health Information Exchange— a disruptive, secure, patient-facing technology that automatically brings disparate, up-to-date, electronic medical records securely to the fingertips of patients and healthcare providers through smart phones and mobile devices that are accessible on-demand, anytime, anywhere, in both emergency (first responder) and ambulatory settings. Patents are issued in the US, CHINA and CANADA.
Developed by CORAnet Solutions, Inc., CORAnet™ is a best-of-breed mobile EMR solution. Comprehensive, flexible, and easy to use, the system provides medical records that are always up to date and immediately available, 24/7 online and offline. CORAnet is secure, source data agnostic, and works with a wide range of wireless devices including smart phones, tablets, and laptops. CORAnet’s technology has both emergency and ambulatory applications. It is scalable, true plug-and-play, and beyond hospitals and traditional providers, can connect to multiple sources of data such as Laboratories, Radiology Centers, Pharmacies, Primary Care clinics, etc.
One of the most serious problems in emergency medical care today is the lack of immediately available, current and accurate patient medical history. A substantial challenge when the patient is conscious, this becomes dramatically more acute when the patient is not. Generally, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) exist. But often the only way for patients and healthcare professionals (doctors, emergency medical technicians, etc.) to access EMR data is through hospitals and other healthcare providers. Despite recent advances in digital capabilities and information technology, there is no unified solution that allows people to carry reliable personal health records that are secure, up-to-date, and available on demand. Given that more than 300 EMR systems are in use today, this problem is only further aggravated.
The Ambulatory component (CORAVault™) provides access to disparate EMRs coming from many different sources as a, single, organized view in the patient’s mobile device (smart phone, laptop, or tablet). This view may be accessed on demand, 24/7 even without network coverage. Automatic updates to medical records are ‘pushed’ to the device within 24 hours. The system is agnostic as to the EMR system whether it is from a hospital, a doctor’s office, or a third party EMR system.
Medical data are secured with 256 bit encryption and are both username and password protected. The uniqueness of the technology is that data are stored in the mobile device and EMR sources only. To guarantee patient privacy and ensure HIPAA and other regulatory compliance, the CORAnet™ servers (resident in the Amazon Cloud) do not store the actual medical data. It is username and password protected. It is important to note that individual patients cannot change any data originating from the EMR system. This ensures absolute data integrity. It allows sharing of data to different care providers when the patient visits multiple specialists, allows family sharing of data (with consent),and with its (optional) notification feature, individual patients are reminded of their appointments and medication intake thus facilitating individual patients’ compliance in their care. System transfers images such as nuclear and CT scans, radiology images and non-invasive procedures such as EKG.
The Emergency component (CORALink™) on the other hand provides individual patients, access to good care that becomes easier and safer when records can easily be shared. Important information (such as blood type, prescribed drugs and allergies) can be accounted for much more quickly during an emergency Quick access to records can be lifesaving if an emergency occurs and answers to those questions are critical during the first responder decision making process.
Also, using the notification feature—with the click of an icon— emergency points of contacts can be notified immediately in case of emergency, dangerous or precarious situations. Diabetes and hemophilia "dog-tags" are examples of methods that have been adopted in the past to alert doctors to a patient’s current medical condition in the event of a medical emergency. To overcome this problem CORAnet Solutions, Inc. has developed a new tool that enables doctors and emergency medical personnel to have immediate, secure and patient-authorized access to the patient’s medical files in both ambulatory and emergency situations through mobile devices.
